Time Out London number 1 for “Spring in the City”
Scoff international cuisine in the open air
Weekly food market Urban Food Fest is back after a break for winter. Taking place in Shoreditch’s Euro Car Parks, it’s packed with stalls and trucks serving dishes from all over the world. Look out for Venezuelan beef arepa (maize flour flatbreads), vegan hand-made pasta and the ubiquitous but undeniably delicious pulled pork in a soft brioche bun. The organiser knows that visitors are likely to get thirsty, what with all that eating, so the bar’s stocked with craft beer, cider, wine and even champagne. Fizz in a car park? Why the heck not?

The Urban Food Fest Shoreditch: Food & Drink Festival
A revolving cast of dozens of food stalls and trucks serve a frankly intimidating variety of global cuisine at the Euro Car Parks in Shoreditch. Jerk chicken, wood-fired oven pizza, pad thai, halloumi souvlaki, sushi, schwarma, fried chicken, burritos – we could go on. And we will, quickly, to make special mention of the deep-fried frogs’ legs. Those things are amazing.
Organisers have ensured that visitors couldn’t want for a thing, so there’s plenty to drink, a ‘V Corner’ for vegans (and their day-walker counterparts, vegetarians) and a sugary selection of dessert options.
Up-and-coming bands and entertainers round out the experience, while the night market’s ever-evolving line-up ensures second and third visits are well worth the effort. Entry is free. The food, of course, is not.
Has the latest round of superhero films stirred something up inside you? Have you discovered a latent desire to fight crime and beat up giant monsters? Well, we can’t promise just that – the monsters you’ll face here are more like enormous burgers and intimidating desserts. What are we on about? The Urban Food Fest is only putting on a Superheroes Special this Saturday. The poppin’ Shoreditch street food market’s themed event is going all out – hungry visitors will get the chance to munch on delicacies like Martian Manhunter Chinese crepes, Iron Man Peruvian ox cheek skewers, and Catwoman chocolate fudge and Oreo brownies. There’ll also be boozy treats like X-Men cider and Incredible Hulk elderflower cocktails (they’re his favourites, we hear).
There’ll also, of course, be people prancing around in superhero outfits all over the shop – so dust off that old Batman costume and get yourself down there this Saturday. The city needs you.
Around 15 food trucks and stalls will be pulling up at a car park in east London. Expect to tingle your taste buds with an array of dishes from across the globe, including spicy pork kimchi burgers (Korea), bratwurst chilli dogs (Austria), spicy jian bings and sticky Sriracha chicken wings (China), French chilli cheese duck confit brioche burgers (France), ‘pepper pot’ jerk chicken (Jamaica) and pulled pork burgers with chilli sauerkraut (Germany). Even the puds follow the spice-is-nice theme, with the likes of chilli and chocolate crème brûlée.
Oktoberfest Street Food Night Market
The Urban Food Fest gathers up all manner of German delights at this year’s Oktoberfest. The Urban Food Fest founder is a bit of a German enthusiast and this Saturday you can revel in their love of all things Bavarian – mainly a load of tasty grub! Dishes being served up will include bratwurst (of course), giant pork burgers, crispy fries with sweet mustard, and pulled pork rolls. As well as traditional spezi, craft beers, cider, and wines, there will also be special Oktoberfest cocktails ‘The Münchner’ and ‘Hallo Fraulein’. To crank up the German factor even further, there will also be traditional music and plenty of girls and guys dressed in dirndls and lederhosen. If you join in with the fancy dress you’ll even get a free cocktail.
Can’t be arsed to cook this weekend? Your takeaway options just got a whole lot more exciting. Food delivery service Deliveroo is taking over Urban Food Fest tomorrow (November 7) for a one-off Bonfire Night-inspired feast including smokey chilli chips, steak sandwiches and toffee apple pancakes. They’ll be setting up shop at Shoreditch’s Euro Car Parks from 12pm – 12am, so if you’re not too hungover to drag yourself out of the house then you can also head down and stuff your face on-site where they’ll have food stalls, music and plenty of warm blankets to keep you cosy. But if staying curled up in the foetal position on the sofa is more appealing, you’ll be able to order food from all 12 stalls though the Deliveroo app – so whack on your loosest-fitting PJs and go wild.
EAT ME, DRINK ME: URBAN FOOD FEST PUTS ON ‘’ALICE IN WONDERLAND’ PARTY
Get ready street food fans, Urban Food Fest is back – and this time it’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ themed.
Hungarian sticky pork belly rolls, Venezuelan shredded beef arepas, British veggie goat’s cheese and honey toasties. Drooling yet? You’ll need to head to Shoreditch on March 28 when Urban Food Fest launches again with food from across the globe, live music and loads of alcoholic potions to get you spinning down that rabbit hole.
Those fancying a few bevs can enjoy craft beers, cider, prosecco and wines from the ‘Drink Me’ bar, or cocktails from the flowery ‘The Rabbit’s Watering Hole’. And if you’re up for donning a caterpillar costume, then you should know that anyone in ‘Alice in Wonderland’ fancy-dress can claim a free cocktail or craft beer. Better start planning that Cheshire Cat outfit…
URUGUAYAN WINE AT URBAN FOOD FEST
Grab a deckchair in this pop-up vineyard and wash down street food from UFF’s array of traders with a glass or two of wine from the Bodega Garzón estate in Uruguay.
